ketchup, pt. 426

July 1, 2009

more about “ketchup, pt. 426“, posted with vodpod

yet another full day around these parts. lets catch up.

the video above (yes, all 8+ minutes) is of our official “gender finding” ultrasound today. confirming what we already knew, we’re having a girl! wooo! but as most of you have already seen that via twitter or facebook, here are some of the pictures the nurse snagged during the course of the ultrasound.

neat-o!

thus far, response to the launch of little acorn photography has been wonderful, with a huge outpouring of support and well-wishing. we’ve got a facebook page now, as well as a twitter account. (as far as who is managing that twitter account… well, that shall remain a mystery).

so now comes the next thing: proper advertising. even with all the great snazzy web stuff we’re able to do, we’re not gonna get much of anywhere without advertising. and, as you can imagine, advertising with any sort of legitimate impact can be a bit expensive, especially when starting off.

the tools and know-how are readily available (perks of having a graphic designer in the house), its just a matter of coming up with a grand scheme of how big we want to start adverting. i mean, do we want to take out a full page ad for one month in a couple of the Montgomery magazines that float around and then scale it back for the proceeding months (big splash, then smaller reminders thereafter)? even for one month, it seems financially daunting.

we’ve a whole bunch of these sorts of things to discuss during our trip to Seattle next week, including tweaking the pricing plan we’ve already had in place. it’ll be good to get out of our normal element and away from the constancy of “life at home” to get our minds in a place to work these things out. while we’re at home, we just have so many distractions to lead us away from hammering out those details. hopefully next week will bring some great results for putting everything else into place.

———

speaking of Seattle… we leave in like two days. wow. that rolled around quickly.

we have stuff on the agenda, but nothing so much that we’re not allowed any sort of down time to just venture out. so far…

  • cheezburger night at SafeCo Park (Mariners v. Rangers)
  • [hopefully] a night at the Experience Music Project where we’ll hear the widow of Jim Henson give a talk
  • Coldplay at the Gorge

… and that’s about all that’s in stone.

i’m really stoked about this trip. its also the first trip we’ll be photographically armed to the teeth. Jac will have her fancy shmancy camera in tow (along with fancy shmancy lens) and i’ll have the still quite capable XTi to shoot with.

you thought we took tons of pictures on our trips before now? you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.

week two (now week three?) of the Great Uncaged Abby experiment is still going along beautifully. her demeanor… i just can’t get over how much its changed for the better. she’s so much calmer when we’re home from work.

i’ve also (fingers crossed) gotten the flea problem under control. i’ve now sprayed the back yard area down twice with some sort of all-purpose flea mix stuff and its worked wonders. Abby also got a big ol’ dose of Advantage today and the results were astounding. i hate paying money for that stuff, but if it works, its worth not having that annoyance around.

i’m sad we won’t be around when Mr. & Mrs. H roll into town in the next few days.

and that’s about it.

g’night!

quick hits

June 24, 2009

a few things before I pass out…

- by the weekend, we’re gonna have some really exciting news to share. in a way, this Manager’s Meeting Jackie’s been at hasn’t been a total waste.

- speaking of which, Jackie gets back at 7pm tonight (Wednesday). there will be much rejoicing. next stop (in a week and a half): Seattle!

- I’m trying to sell my 15″ MacBook Pro so I can upgrade. I’ve decided this for a few reasons: I can do with a smaller screen, battery life in the new ones is amazing, lugging around that 15″ beast is becoming a chore, etc etc. but also…

- I’ve been saving to get a fancy new HD camera, but after reading a review of the iPhone 3GS at Cult of Mac, I’ve changed my mind. the point was made that while having a nice, solid dedicated HD camera ia good, what really matters is what you have on hand at any given moment, and now that the iPhone has video recording ability, it will routinely become the camera of choice because “your best camera is the one you have on you.” never thought of it that way…

- day Four of the Great Uncaged Dog experiment, and I’ve yet to find a reason to stop experimenting. instead, I believe it’s time for this experiment to become a full-fledged occurance. Abby’s been doing great and it’s really helped to even out her more spastic qualities. very proud of her.

post happy

February 8, 2009

the super extraneous entry bug has bitten. at least it waited till now and didn’t happen earlier this week.

———

i’m about to go nite nite, but i wanted to share a couple of thoughts on a couple of movies i just got around to seeing.

Sin City

… ehhh. meh. visually, it was quite impressive and quite the feat, so i’ll give it that. but everything else was… flat. the acting, writing… just blah. not nearly as impressed as i hoped to be.

There Will Be Blood

now THIS was amazing. the cinematography, the music, the semi-epic scope of it all… just brilliant. the acting was tremendous and i now understand both why Daniel Dae Lewis won his Oscar last year and the true meaning of  ”i drink your milkshake.” it was unabashedly dark and frightful at times, and Plainview’s descent into absolute madness was brilliantly paced, very much on par with another favorite of mine, Amadeus. i haven’t seen a film quite like it in ages and it’ll be awhile until something else like it comes along.

———

jackie returns tomorrow. this is a good thing. the animals are getting restless and we’re all beginning to wear thing on each others nerves. i chewed Abby out, up one side and down the other, for (finally) eating a hole through the rug in the office. she absolutely deserved it, as she’s been told and scolded time and time again for doing such a thing.

its cute to suggest that, “oh, she doesn’t want to chew on the things you’ve bought for her because she wants attention; thats what dogs do!,” but its extraordinarily frustrating. she’s worked her way out of all of her earlier puppy “things” except this one. she’ll spend hours chewing on her rawhide bone and her giant towel and the cat, but i leave her alone for literally 10 minutes and she finally chews a hole in a rug.

and of course, its not enough that she just chews it. she eats the thing, and as the rug is made of strips of fabric, when it comes out the other end… well… you get the picture.

———

but i’m off track now. jackie comes home tomorrow and i am really freaking excited about it. this may be the longest we’ve been apart since Sept. 23, 2006. we’ve dealt with it alright, but we’re both ready for her to come home.

since i “worked” today, i’ll be taking a comp day for monday. she’ll also have the day off, so we’re planning on spending the day out and about Montgomery. just her, me, her camera, an extra battery, and her MacBook. i’ve come to the conclusion that she’s thinking too much about shooting, that she’s pushing herself too hard to remember what she learned in college and also sticking too closely to what she’s been conditioned for at work.

hopefully a good, full day out on Monday will get her to loosen up and just shoot. not think, just shoot. part of her brilliance in school was her documentarian style, where she didn’t pose people and she just shot everything in hopes of getting “that” one, which she often did.

ok, i’m rambling.

good night.
